Robert Griffin III sure had a lot of hype coming into the 2012 NFL draft. Folks like Skip Bayless were openly gushing over him daily and some even thought he would wind up being the better QB than the first overall pick Andrew Luck. The Washington Redskins traded their future at the time for RGIII and now it seems like they will just to get rid of him. Actually, I shouldn't say that. Daniel Snyder may just try to keep him forever out of stubbornness.
With Kirk Cousins seemingly becoming a capable franchise quarterback for the Redskins, it appears that most have simply forgotten about RGIII. Yet, in Griffin's rookie year he put up stellar numbers and led the Redskins to the playoffs. Then he followed it up with subpar performance after subpar performance and he has found himself stuck on the bench. Surely his talent didn't just completely fade away, right? Investing long term in a mobile QB that is constantly injured is scary for any franchise, it just seems unbelievable to me that there is nowhere in the NFL for RGIII. Logic says that his time in Washington is up after this year, but Daniel Snyder doesn't know what logic means.
If the Eagles fail to make the playoffs this year and Jeffrey Lurie decides to stick with Chip Kelly as the coach, is Philadelphia an option for RGIII? On paper it looks like it would be a good fit. The same injury questions surround their current QB Sam Bradford and Chip Kelly is crazy enough to give it a try. Would Daniel Snyder allow RGIII to go to a division rival or will he freak out and not sign Kirk Cousins and keep Griffin? So many questions with so many questionable people trying to answer them. Even though it has been reported that RGIII is definitely done in Washington, I still don't believe Snyder will just let the number 2 overall pick go for nothing. Hopefully I'm wrong.
My hopes is that RGIII gets a second chance somewhere else and succeeds. He has so much talent, it would be a shame to see another QB with so much promise fail to even remotely live up to expectations. If this whole football thing doesn't work out for RGIII, I think he has a great chance of playing Ed in Good Burger 2 if Kel Mitchell is unavailable.
