When the Celtics tied the series 2-2, everyone assumed it was going 7 games. However, the Celtics absolutely quit in game 5 in Atlanta and laid an egg in Boston in game 6. This whole year was about how gutty this team was and how they would never give up. The fact that they pretty much did in their final two games of the season is incredibly disappointing. Brad Stevens deserves credit for guiding the Celtics back to the playoffs, but it is really difficult to look at this season as anything besides a let-down.
Celtics fans were talking about this team making it to the Eastern Conference Finals, where they would ultimately lose to Lebron and the Cavs. However, that would be impossible because the Celtics shit the bed at the end of the season and fell to the 5 seed. This meant that if they had won this round, they would have been swiftly eliminated by the Cavs in the second round due to the seeding in the playoffs. All that becomes a moot point because the Celtics quite literally stunk up the joint two games in a row. Getting blown out at home in an elimination game is simply embarrassing. It is even more embarrassing when it happens against the Atlanta Hawks, a team with a history of epic failures.
Now, it is time for every Celtics fan to realize that nobody is untouchable on this roster when it comes to trades. This team is so far away from being anything approaching a title-contender, that if you are someone that still believes Isaiah Thomas is a part of a big three, I don't know what you are watching. He's a great scorer that cannot play defense and is tremendously under-sized. He is an incredible sixth man. He is not an elite player. There was a time I thought he was, but not anymore. I'm not putting this awful loss on him though. Players like Evan Turner and Jae Crowder deserve a hell of a lot of blame. Crowder especially since he quite literally contributed nothing this entire series. The next time the Celtics win the championship, there might not be anyone from this roster on the team. Maybe Marcus Smart or Rozier, but the players that started the game tonight versus the Hawks came up woefully short and the lack of talent on the roster was exposed. Sullinger was useless. I mean, how many passengers can you have on one roster? Apparently Olynyk cannot play through any pain whatsoever. The 2015-2016 Celtics were a fun team that are not built for the playoffs.
Let's go Trader Danny. Ainge should be incredibly busy this offseason, if not the Celtics will be one and done next year too.
