I don't know how many more examples Don Sweeney and Cam Neely need to realize this team just isn't good enough. Milan Lucic returned to the TD Garden with the LA Kings and just demolished the Bruins. For whatever reason, the Bruins simply cannot win at home and even more telling is that they cannot compete with the better teams in the NHL. The trade deadline is approaching rapidly and the Bruins need to make a decision. Is this team worth adding to or are the Bruins better off selling some pieces? I vote for the latter.
The Bruins are caught in a tough position and their roster simply doesn't make sense. There is no reason to hold on to Zdeno Chara and Seidenberg. Loui Eriksson is another player that makes no sense for the Bruins to hold onto. Hopefully, Sweeney sees the same thing most Bruins fans see and knows this team is not good enough. I think they are quite far away from being a Stanley Cup contender and desperately need to overhaul this roster. There are way too many passengers on this team. Brett Connolly, Jimmy Hayes, Kevan Miller, the list goes on and on. These guys don't factor into the Bruins future and are not championship players at all.
Even though the Bruins are currently in the playoffs, there is no doubt they will be an early exit if they do indeed make it. Why wait till the offseason to acknowledge what is painfully obvious? It is time for a rebuild. This current roster is never going to get anywhere. They are soft and have limited skill players. Dougie Hamilton and Tyler Seguin were dealt away and it really has doomed this franchise. As of now, the Boston Bruins do not have an identity. The fact that the Bruins are in the playoffs highlights how poor the Eastern Conference is, not how great of a team the Bruins are. If there is one takeaway from tonight's game against the Kings, it should be that the Bruins are a flawed team that have no direction.
