Yet another loss for the Boston Bruins, this time against the Philadelphia Flyers. It feels like this Bruins team has let so many games slip away this season, whether it is by missing wide open scoring chances or having incredible defensive breakdowns during the third period of games. The Bruins held a 2-1 lead after the second period and got outplayed in the third period and ultimately lost 3-2.
It remains hard to figure out this Bruins team and whether they should be taken seriously. The entire season the Bruins have been hot and cold. They will have a good week and then a bad week, but even on their good weeks the Bruins don't seem to be one of the elite teams anymore. Everything is a grind and I know that is how Claude Julien teams play, but this year it is especially noticeable. It also appears that veterans like Zdeno Chara are slowing down at the tail-end of their career and the Bruins have no replacement on the roster right now. Chara is still a tremendous player, but he is playing too many minutes and is visibly slower. The Bruins are in tough spot and it is hard for me argue that GM Don Sweeney should trade away the farm to pursue a Stanley Cup this season. I think this season is Sweeney rebuilding the roster on the fly and it is not a given that the Bruins will even make the playoffs this year.
