Kickoff Show Match
The Royal Rumble kickoff saw the team of Mark Henry and Jack Swagger defeat the Dudley Boys, the Ascension and Darren Young/Damien Sandow. This was a throwaway match to get some more superstars a paycheck. I figured Mark Henry would win seeing as the WWE always has big guys in the Rumble in order to do that spot where one man heroically tosses him out, or everyone teams up to eliminate him.
Intercontinental Championship Match: Dean Ambrose vs Kevin Owens (Last Man Standing)
The first match of the show was the Intercontinental Championship match between Dean Ambrose and Kevin Owens. Ambrose entered the Royal Rumble as the champion and defended it in a last man standing match. There a couple of epic chair spots, including Dean Ambrose back body dropping Kevin Owens through two chairs in the middle of the ring. Dean Ambrose hit an elbow drop off the top rope onto a table set up outside the ring. The match ended with Kevin Owens setting Dean Ambrose up on a bed of chairs in the middle of the ring, only for Ambrose to jump up and push Kevin Owens off the top rope through two tables.
Winner and still Intercontinental Champion: Dean Ambrose
Tag Team Championship Match: The Usos vs New Day
The pre-match segment was awesome. The New Day held a moment of silence for fallen trombone Francesca. However, Xavier Woods came out with a new trombone named Francesca 2. This was a solid back and forth match with Xavier Woods being a jackass (in a good way) outside the ring. Big E caught Jay Uso jumping off the top rope and hit him with the "Big Ending" for the win.
Winner and still Tag Team Champions: New Day
United States Championship Match: Alberto Del Rio vs Kalisto
I hated the build up to this match. Kalisto won the title on Raw then immediately lost it on Smackdown. It was just goofy to me but I was still anticipating a solid match between these two superstars. Kalisto is an incredible wrestler and Del Rio is quite good as well and has the ability to carry a match. This turned out to be a great match and kept the flow of the night going. Kalisto gets the clean pinfall over Del Rio.
Winner and new United States Champion: Kalisto
An interesting segment between Stephanie McMahon and Paul Heyman happened after the match. Paul Heyman says he wants to negotiate Brock Lesnar's contact and Stephanie McMahon suggests that if Lesnar takes down Roman Reigns in the royal rumble, then she will be happy to negotiate Lesnar's contract. Very interesting. A possible Lesnar heel turn?
WWE Divas Title Match: Charlotte vs Becky Lynch
I predicted in my blog that Ric Flair would have some kind of effect on this match. He has been helping Charlotte win matches against Becky Lynch for the past few weeks, so this time I predicted that Flair would inadvertently cost Charlotte the match. I didn't exactly count on Ric Flair kissing Becky Lynch, but then again Ric Flair was probably drunk off his rocking chair. This was a great match that showed off the talent of both superstars. It was back and forth the entire match with a few false finishes. The end came when Ric Flair threw his jacket over Becky Lynch's head and Charlotte subsequently hit Becky with a spear. Kind of a lame ending but it is what it is. Charlotte continued to beatdown Becky Lynch after the match. The crowd booed loudly which is a good sign. Sasha Banks, aka "The Boss" came out after the match ended and also attacked Becky Lynch. Sasha then attacked Charlotte. Lame ending to the actual match, but after the match was awesome.
Winner and still Divas Champion: Charlotte
The Royal Rumble Match for the WWE World Heavy Weight Championship
Roman Reigns enters number one and is booed again. Ruh roh, I really hope he doesn't win again, this could get rough. AJ Styles came out as the third entrant to the rumble to a thunderous reaction. This was awesome to see, I've always been a big fan of AJ Styles. Chris Jericho and Goldust also showed up. Kofi Kingston had his yearly incredible escape of elimination. Roman Reigns was beat down by the League of Nations and Rusev hit a huge spash on Reigns on the Spanish announce table. Braun Strowman eliminated the Big Show and Kane (yippee). Kevin Owens eliminated WWE, an absolute badass moment in the rumble. My prediction turned out to be wrong though, as Sami Zayn eliminated Kevin Owens. Brock Lesnar was eliminated when the entire Wyatt family ganged up on him and tossed him over the ropes. After Reigns was taken backstage after the brutal attack by the League of Nations, he returns when Sheamus enters at number 29. The crowd once again booed. Ruh roh yet again. In the most predictable thing of all time, Triple H entered at number 30. Thus, there was no Daniel Bryan, which most of the WWE Universe was hoping for. Triple H eliminated Roman Reigns and the final two were Triple H and Dean Ambrose. Triple H wins. Nice to see someone new on top and the WWE champion(rolls eyes).
Winner and New WWE Champion: Triple Mother Fucking H
