The Bruins aren't playing as well as they were in the beginning of the year and the Celtics have completely crashed back to earth. In fact, the Celtics all of the sudden completely suck. After making the postseason last year, the expectations in Boston are higher for this team. Nobody with a brain thinks they are championship contender this year as presently constituted, but shit everyone just assumed they would be better than last year. There is still time for the Celtics to get their act together, but there just seems to be way to many players contributing little to nothing on this team. It is the same problem I've had all along with this team, essentially Isiah Thomas has to have an incredible game if the Celtics want to defeat quality competition. Also, where is all this depth the Boston media was talking about before the season? 38 games in it I'm still not seeing it.
The Bruins struggling makes more sense to me. With Krecji sidelined with an injury and the idiotic hit by Marchand that led to the suspension, it isn't as baffling as the Celtics. However, you couldn't start off a new year worse than that disgraceful performance at the Winter Classic. It is impossible to tell just how good this Bruins team actually is. Even with Krecji in the lineup, I still think the Bruins need to make a trade or two to actually contend and I'm not sure this is the year to do it. Every deadline in the NHL is bonkers because teams pay a kings ransom for marginal players. I'd have to talk myself into thinking the Bruins are just a player away, unless that player is a stud #1 defenseman.
Then there is the Patriots. Sure, they are in the playoffs but what the hell is going on with Chandler Jones? There are a bunch of rumors out there that he overdosed on pills, who knows. Local radio stations have claimed that he was partying over Gronkowski's house, then apparently Gronk wasn't even in the state of Massachusetts during the incident. I have no idea, I do know that you couldn't pick a worse time to fuck up, Mr. Jones. Knowing the Patriots, this story will be buried and Chandler Jones will be out there Saturday against the Chiefs and probably rack up 3 sacks and a forced fumble. I don't even care as much about the Chandler Jones/Gronk missing practice story as I do the gigantic black eye Belichick was flaunting at his presser. What was that about? I would kill to know the backstory on that. Maybe he blacked out at the same party Chandler Jones was at and fell and smacked his face on an ottoman.
