Jeremy Maclin's injury ultimately was the downfall for the Kanas City Chiefs. They simply couldn't keep up with the Patriots offense all night and were playing catch-up the entire game. The pivotal point in the game is when Kansas City started a drive at the Patriots 35 yard line and came up with no points. Alex Smith did the best he could with the weapons he had, but it just wasn't enough. It would have taken a perfect game by both the Chiefs offense and defense for them to come out of Foxboro with a victory and that didn't happen. The Chiefs hung in as long as they could but the injuries caught up to them and ultimately ended their season. It was still an impressive season for the Chiefs and Alex Smith proved he is much more than simply a game manager. Andy Reid proved that he is a great coach that still has no idea how to mange the clock. Somebody buy that man a watch.
The Patriots now await the result of tomorrow's Denver Broncos vs Pittsburgh Steelers game to see who they will face next week in the AFC championship game. Despite a few early drops, Julian Edelman played a solid game and looked to be close to 100%. All week there were rumors swirling around Gronkowski and his health. He had an injection in his knee and was also apparently suffering from a back injury. On Saturday, he didn't seem to be suffering from any ailments as he had a phenomenal game. The offensive line of the Patriots seemed to be in peril heading into this game, yet the Chiefs generated absolutely no pressure on Brady all game. At the end of the game, a ricochet off of Tamba Hali landed right in Julian Edelman's hands and sealed the game.
The New England Patriots defeat the Chiefs 27-20 and head to the AFC championship yet again.
