It has been a rocky start for the Boston Red Sox this year and if fans were being honest with themselves, that was to be expected. Wright and Porcello have really been the only starters that have pitched well, David Price, the 31 million dollar man, has pitched like doo-doo. One of the shining stars of the Red Sox season so far has been Hanley Ramirez. Everyone is falling in love with a guy after he was one of the most hated athletes in Boston last year. He was downright awful last year in left field and most of that was due to lack of effort. If you suck, Boston fans will accept that. However, if you are extremely talented but suck because you aren't trying, that is unacceptable in a town like Boston.
This year has been a different story. Hanley has looked solid at first base and is showing all kinds of effort. The Red Sox fans are cheering him on and everything is hunky-dory. Hanley Ramirez is being paid 20 million dollars to play adequate first base I guess because he hasn't been swing the bat well.
Hanley is hitting behind the aging Ortiz, who ridiculously is still this team's best hitter, and is putting up those numbers. One homerun and seven RBI's. That is not worth 20 million dollars, neither is his play at first base. So excuse me if I don't pull out my pom-poms and start singing Sweet Caroline at the top of my lungs. The Red Sox are 7-8 and Hanley Ramirez still sucks.
