If you watched the first quarter, you would have thought a Celtics victory was impossible. The Cavs are clearly the best team in the east, but tonight the Celtics were able to pull off the win. It took a lot for it to happen. First, the Cavs had to blow a 15 point lead that they held in the first. Second, the Cavs had to miss an absurd amount of free-throws and third Kevin Love had to get injured.
In no way does this mean that the Celtics are on the Cavs level, but it still is quite an impressive win. The Celtics are an easy team to root for. They never quit and never feel like they are out of the game
and for the most part, they never are. It is a team that is lacking in super star talent but not in heart. Danny Ainge may be even more inclined to make a trade for a big name before the deadline, even though that is incredibly difficult in the NBA. This team may not be a championship contender in 2016, but they are building something very special.
As for the Cleveland Cavaliers, they are a complete mess. There is no way in hell they should lose to this Celtics team at home. I'm not taking anything away from the Celtics, they battled all night. However, when you compare the talent, it really is a bad loss by the Cavs. Apparently, David Blatt wasn't the only problem in Cleveland. Their offense was incredibly stationary for most of the night. The Cavs have an incredible amount of talent but apparently have no idea how to move the ball.
The Cavs had a 4 point lead with 10 seconds left and let it slip away. JR. Smith had an obnoxious foul that turned a layup into a 3 point play opportunity. Evan Turner then missed that free-throw, but Marcus Smart busted his ass and caused chaos and the ball deflected out of bounds off of Lebron James. The Celtics got the ball back down by 2 points and then Avery Bradley sent the Cleveland crowd home pissed off.
The Celtics just need more talent, the Cleveland Cavaliers need an identity. They don't even seem like a team half the time. David Blatt clearly wasn't the only problem and Tyronn Lue is now 5-3 after taking over as the head coach. Everybody says the Cavs are Lebron's team and he runs the show. I guess it is time for the King to go back to the drawing board, because right now his Cavs look nothing like a championship team.
