On a day where the Red Sox actually looked like a competent baseball team, the Bruins are staring at their second disastrous finish to a season in a row. Tonight, the Bruins host the Carolina Hurricanes, a team with nothing to play for. This game should be an easy win for the Bruins, but nothing ever comes easy for the B's. In order to make the playoffs, the Bruins most likely will have to win their final three games of the season and it is hard to imagine they will.
The entire season is on the line tonight for the Bruins. If they lose tonight and the Red Wings defeat the Flyers tomorrow, then Thursday night's showdown between Boston and Detroit is not to determine first place. It would be to get the Bruins within a point of the Red Wings with one game left in the season. If the Bruins lose tonight, this entire season was a waste of everyone's time. Claude Julien will be fired and the decisions made at the trade deadline will look even more idiotic for Don Sweeney.
But hey, it hasn't happened yet. The Bruins could come out tonight like they have something to prove and demolish the Hurricanes. They are the much talented team and that is what should happen. Yet, I'm pretty much convinced the Bruins are going to lose tonight. That is how much of a mental case this team has turned me into. I expect them to throw up all over themselves in front of a sold out crowd at the TD Garden. Or maybe they will show up. I have no idea.
